Investment sees the Triangle shape up in time for Christmas

Released on 17 December 2009

Residents of The Triangle in North Shields are celebrating some early Christmas presents after new kitchens, bathrooms and windows were installed in their homes.

The Triangle is a community of terraced homes standing between Waterville Road and Howdon Road in North Shields.

NomadE5 has 114 homes in the area, and is investing in their refurbishment as part of its programme to ensure its entire stock meets the Government's Decent Homes Standard.

NomadE5 has appointed contractors from Gentoo and ROK to work on homes in The Triangle. The extent of the work varies in each property but a typical home will gain a new kitchen, bathroom suite, new doors and double glazing.

Residents get to make their own choice of worktops, flooring, kitchen units and doors, to suit their own style.

The first properties were finished last month and NomadE5 aims to have the majority completed by March 2010.

Mrs Dayang Ahomet was one of the first NomadE5 residents to gain from the refurbishment.

She said: "The new kitchen is fantastic, very modern and very attractive. The new doors and windows look great and also help lift the external look of the place. I couldn't wish for more."

Paul Thompson, planned maintenance team leader at NomadE5 said: "All the work completed so far looks great and people seem very pleased with it.
"Working closely with our contractors, we are making good progress through the whole of the Triangle area to give everyone homes to be proud of."

The Decent Homes work to upgrade the properties will complement the substantial investment made in the streetscape of The Triangle by North Tyneside Council four years ago to create an award-winning Home Zone.

This involved redesigning the streets to make them more people-friendly, more attractive, and to reduce the risk of traffic accidents.

Alison Stanners, managing director of NomadE5, said: "It's really satisfying to be able to improve our customers' homes in this way. We have been working hard to complete what is an enormous programme across the whole region, and we'll be investing even more in 2010."
